In its reaction to a statement that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, invited some proprietors of private universities and other higher institutions of learning in Nigeria over allegations of charging fees in dollars, the National Universities Commission, NUC, has cleared the air that no tertiary institutions in the country is allowed to charge tuition fees in dollars except those who admitted foreign students.
In a chat with journalists, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Mr. Chris Maiyaki informed that, following an inquiry into the allegation, the body discovered that a particular private university was not charging fees in dollars.
The NUC boss stated specifically that, “On the dollarisation of tuition fees in this said university, we have investigated it and the university is not charging fees in dollars,” adding that the said university only charge dollars to foreign students.
“So I want the media to join hands with us to tell the public that no Nigerian university is allowed to charge fees in dollars,” Maiyaki stated.
