The Tinubu Media Volunteers, TMV, have commended the remodelling and commissioning of the National Arts Theatre Iganmu in Lagos, describing the new structure as innovative and remarkable
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and the Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the media group said: “We note that the edifice is a national monument that has been abandoned over the years by successive administrations.
”This iconic national monument boosts the culture, tradition, and tourism potential of the country. We also acknowledge it as a centre of tourism, entertainment and international conferences and events.
”Also, the renaming of the centre as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts symbolises the President Bola Tinubu administration’s recognition of the Nobel laureate’s accomplishments in the literary world as well as his global acceptance as a creative mind.
”It is noted that the project was executed by the Bankers’ committee at a cost of N68 billion and carried out under a joint corporate social responsibility initiative in the tail end of the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
”Based on the interest President Tinubu attached to the project, it was delivered within a record period of four years. It is also worthy of note that while the project slowed down at a point, completion under the President Tinubu administration has become a source of pride to all Nigerians and Africans.
”We are glad that it has regained its position as the centre of culture, entertainment and the national monument. There is no doubt that the National Arts Theatre represents Nigeria’s national heritage and a centre for international events.
”We recall that the centre was built for the FESTAC 77 and since then has transformed into a remarkable national edifice for which Nigerians derive pride and satisfaction.”
The group also applauds the decision of the Tinubu administration to restore the once decrepit monument to a national pride.
