Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) for Legal Practitioners 2023, Rule 33_ subjudice Rule..
A lawyer or law firm engaged in, or associated with the prosecution or defence of a criminal matter, or associated with a civil action;
i. shall not, while litigation is anticipated or pending in the matter, make or participate in making any extra-judicial statement that is calculated to prejudice or interfere with,
ii. or, is reasonably capable of prejudicing or interfering with, the fair trial of the matter or the judgment or sentence.
The law expects that lawyers argue their cases in court, not on the streets, lub house, party, protest ground or media houses.
Protesting for your client as a lawyer, is as good as trying to influence public opinion on the matter or the judge’s opinion on the matter.
The Lawyer’s outing is completely a professional misconduct and the law is not emotional. Our Learned friend goofed!
He can protest for other reasons, but not on the same case he is handling as a lawyer.
