Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has set March 2026 as the target date for the completion and commissioning of the 13.5-kilometre Oyorokoto Road, a strategic project linking the popular Oyorokoto Beach to newly discovered Atlantic Ocean beach fronts in Andoni Local Government Area.
Governor Fubara announced the timeline on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, while speaking to journalists during an inspection visit to the project site at the Atlantic shoreline.
Describing the road as a “pathway to the blue economy,” the governor said the project would open up massive economic and tourism opportunities for the state.
Defying the weather to personally assess progress on site, Fubara explained that the road—originally designed to reach Oyorokoto Beach—was extended further after engineers discovered another breathtaking coastal site directly facing the Atlantic Ocean.
Visibly moved by the natural beauty of the coastline, the governor said his administration plans to harness the area’s tourism potential to drive investment and job creation.
“I call it the pathway to the blue economy,” Fubara said, adding that, “We decided to construct this road because of the popular Oyorokoto Beach, one of the finest tourist centres in the state. But as work progressed, we found another site just ahead, facing the Atlantic Ocean. We couldn’t ignore it.”
Despite the difficult terrain, Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s determination to complete the project on schedule.
“From what we have seen today, the contractor, MCC, is doing its best,” he added. “We believe that, hopefully by March next year, we’ll be back here to commission this road.”
On his way back from Andoni, the governor also made a brief stop at the Kalaibiama–Epellema Road in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, where he inspected ongoing piling works for the river-crossing bridge to Epellema.
