The Federal Government has announced Friday, 29th March and Monday, 1st April 2024 as public holidays to commemorate the 2024 Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this on behalf of the Federal Government and called on the Christian faithful and Nigerians in general to emulate the virtues demonstrated by Jesus Christ who died for the redemption of mankind.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the minister observed that Easter celebration, beyond its religious significance, promotes the virtues of love, forgiveness and compassion, essential for social cohesion and harmony.

Olubunmi-Ojo enjoined Christians to imbibe the virtues as they are capable of impacting positively on the socio-economic development of the country, thereby fostering unity, reducing conflicts and encouraging cooperation among fellow citizens.

The Interior minister called on Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity to help alleviate the material conditions of the less privileged amongst them.

The minister acknowledged said this is in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

While wishing Christians home and abroad a happy and blissful Easter celebration, Olubunmi-Ojo called on Nigerians to join hands with the President in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity to all citizens.
