The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described as unfortunate developments, the latest Impeachment moves embarked by the chambers of the State House of Assembly.

In a statement by the Rivers State APC Spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, the leadership of the party expressed grave concern, while noting that the legislature remains “an independent arm in the tripod of governance, and the constitutional responsibilities of checks and balances are within their democratic purview,” the stated categorically that it is not in alignment with the latest plan to impeach governor Siminalayi Fubara, stating that, “Our position as at today on this matter is that, we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our Governor and his deputy.”

The Rivers lawmakers had alleged that the governor failed to submit the Mid-Term Expenditure Framework as required by law, claiming that he Fubara public funds without legislative appropriation. According to the lawmakers, the actions by the executive is tantamount to grave violations of constitutional provisions and undermined the authority of the legislature.

But the Rivers APC has vowed that it will not sit back and watch the party being thrown into another round of crisis over a budget explaining and advising that the state legislature should disallow any form of external pressures in their conduct.

“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party.

“It is important to say to Rivers people and Nigerians that since the latest threat of impeachment centers on the budget, may we remind ourselves that under the period of emergency rule, a budget was transmitted to the National Assembly by the President and Commander-in-Chief in May 2025 which was approved by the Senate on 25 June 2025 and subsequently by the House of Representatives on July 22 2025 for a total sum of #1.485 trillion.

“Interestingly, this budget is for one year and should run uptil (sic.) August 2026 and if the Governor is comfortable with the composition of the said budget, he may elect not to present any supplementary budget. Besides, the constitution allows for a six-months spending window into the new fiscal year by a state governor.

“We therefore strongly advise all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly especially APC members, to resist pressures from outside the Assembly chambers to destabilize the Government of Rivers state ably led by His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

“Let it be known that our party will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilized through fratricidal disagreements.”

The Rivers state APC called on members of the State Assembly, especially APC members in the house, to immediately discontinue the impeachment proces, not to drag the image of the party to the mud and thereby stifle the continuous progress and development of Rivers State.

The statement concluded by leaving a charge for the parties involved, saying, “Let our state remain a democracy and not a politicocracy!!!”

The Pinnacle Times can report that the latest move by the Rivers State House of Assembly will be third in the series of impeachment proceedings to remove governor Sim Fubara and his deputy, Odu from office since May 2023. There were  attempts to impeach the duo in 2023 and 2025, in the faceoff between the governor and his predecessor, former governor Nyesom Wike who was then Fubara’s political god-father,
