Christian Tertsea Swende is the director of ‘Chris Dance‘ which evolved through passionate devotion. In this interview with The Pinnacle Times, he reveals how what looked like a childhood fancy has become a brand to reckon with by its cheer ability to raise and nurture youngsters who would have been abandoned to the fate of their circumstances, apart from the dance ability to entertain with profound messages in Christian and secular circles. Excerpts:
Can you give us your brief introduction, including your background and education?
My name is Christian Tertsea Swende, popularly known as Chris Dance. I am a Born Again child of God that Dances. I was born on February 26th 1987, first of six siblings from Benue State, Tiv by tribe and a graduate of Biological Sciences from Benue State University.
When and how did your dance career or pursuit evolve?
I have always loved dancing from my childhood but I took it professionally in 2008 after I had my born again encounter with JESUS .
How did you come up with the brand, Chris Dance?
i was actually known as Chris De Dance, but I was invited to minister in an organization (faith based ) and after the ministration, the owner of the organization (Coach David Odeta ) received the name CHRIST’s DANCE from God while I was dancing and he explained that the dance isn’t mine anymore but Christ’s. So, that was how Christ’ Dance came about which is now CHRIS DANCE.

Is your dance group all about the church or your performances also extend to secular events?
Actually, the dance is not all about church alone but also secular events too but the primary essence is that Christ is revealed irrespective of the gathering or events.
What gives you inspirations and how has that affected your ratings out there?
The Holy Ghost is my greatest inspiration most of the dance ideas come when I pray that’s why I don’t do trends or jump on them ….dance is also a means to reach out to the unsaved . It is my major mean of evangelism. Soul winning is basically my inspiration.
Like you are passionate about mentoring and raising youngsters to be productive, how do you discover and source raw talents?
The burning desire to see a better generation of tomorrow pushes me actually and teenagers are the generation coming and if they are not positively and spiritually impacted now through there gifts we may lose them to the devil tomorrow. evangelism and one on one discovery- staging talents hunts are part of the means I used in discovering them.
When you say Chris Dance, what can you say is spectacular about the brand?
Chris Dance is not just a brand but a system in the spirit.

Since you are mainly spiritual, what role does the church play in your vision?
Everything started primarily as an expression of gift or talent, but through the church, Christ is being revealed and reaching out to a generation basically to realize their purpose.
Lately, you have successfully gathered some teenagers within the Rhema Chapel International Churches, Abuja and in deed your collaboration with others, how did you achieve that?
Rhema Chapel International Churches, Abuja has basically opened her arms wide and embraced this vision by believing in the grace. On countless occasions, I have been invited not just to dance and minister but also teach and choreograph for teenagers and children, even in many churches across the country over the years. We have also worked and collaborated with schools, secondary and primary alike with gospel materials like Rhapsody of Realities and more.
Do you thing there is any connection between soul lifting songs and dance performance?
Haa! It has been very tough but it started from that same desire and also I was invited by the coordinator of the teens church for a dance ministration and that gave birth to this ..
Again, it all depends as the spirit leads basically, some of our songs that we dance to are inspired in the place of prayer.
What are the benefits of your kind of dance that not only ministers but lend itself to fascinating stage performance, based on the acrobatic movement of the body?
The number basic benefit of dance is not money alone or exercise alone but expression of desire any how u want it . Dance itself is entertaining which you can make money as a result, dance is a form of exercise aerobically (Zumba) , as a believer or as a minister Dance it is also a means to express worship to God, like the king David example.
Lastly, what do you do to remain fit for your art, as a form of discipline – eating, specific exercises and so on?
I Remain fit by consistency in training workout and rehearsals, I don’t eat late hours of the night no matter how hungry I feel.
