Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has joined in condemning the burning of the Ubima ward Secretariat of the ADC located in Amaechi’s Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a statement made available to the media, Chief Eze said that Amaechi was expected in his ward on Friday for his official membership registration with the party at the ADC Secretariat in his community before a gang of political thugs allegedly loyal to the FCT Minister, invaded the facility and unleashed mayhem by destroying everything on sight before finally setting the political office ablaze.

It would be recalled that the incident, which generated wide media attention occurred in the wee hours of Friday, just a few moments to Amaechi’s arrival for the ceremony.

According to sources in the community, the operation lasted over 30 minutes and the perpetrators plied their operation freely, as they were said to be armed to the teeth.

According to local reports, the attackers invaded the community late Thursday night, firing gunshots before setting the party’s local secretariat on fire.

Residents said the gunmen shot sporadically across parts of the area during the attack, but no life was lost.

Sources also disclosed that the suspected thugs, whose mission was to ensure the ceremony didn’t hold, returned early Friday and mounted a roadblock along the Omuawa–Ubima Road, just as reports added that vehicles conveying ADC supporters or displaying party banners were reportedly prevented from entering the community.

Not minding the fact that they burnt his ward Secretariat, mobilized vigilante and Some youth to stop his entrance into his LGA and ward, Amaechi proved that he is still the Lion of Niger Delta and not caring about his life disembarked from his car and marched to the idiots who have to run to the nearby bushes. By this act, Amaechi being the Lion that he is briefed the Wike’s boys that in ADC “we didn’t join to become weak people”, and successfully did his registration,” Eze, the former minister’s ally stated.

Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, hails from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area, one of the LGA’s, known to have gone under the heat of political opposition in the recent history.

Describing the action as dastardly, undemocratic, cowardly and an unfortunate trajectory that has permeated Nigeria’s political landscape, Eze called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the actions which clearly set yet another bad precedent in the polity, are brought to justice.

Eze emphasized Amaechi’s commendable gestures while addressing his supporters who thonged the venue to receive him appealed for calm, urging his loyalists to resist any temptation toward reprisal or disorder.

“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody — don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” the party chieftain quoted Amaechi as saying.

He also noted that, despite the charged atmosphere, Amaechi expressed satisfaction with the conduct of security operatives deployed to the area, singling out the state commissioner of police and the director of the Department of State Services for praise and prompt intervention.

“We thank the commissioner of police and the director of DSS; they showed a lot of professionalism. In fact, I wasn’t expecting that from them; I thought they would be behind the criminals,”Eze quoted Amaechi as saying again.

It would be recalled that, the former transportation minister subsequently appealed to security agencies to move swiftly to identify and prosecute those behind the arson, warning that such acts of intimidation would not deter the ADC  activities in the area.

In all this, Eze describes the inability of President Tinubu to rein in the FCT minister, who the activities of his political loyalists may not be unconnected with all that played out, expressing worries that, “accordingly in his efforts to derail our nascent democracy as most unfortunate and if he is allowed to continue like this only God knows what will be become of our democracy come 2027.”

The chieftain also reasoned by concluding that, “Attempting to stop Amaechi to move to his hometown to register shows how afraid both Wike and Tinubu are but nobody is disturbed as Tinubu will surely be voted out by Nigerians…,” adding further that, “Amaechi’s defection to the ADC signals a significant boost for the opposition party, which has been ramping up its national profile ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
