Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has announced his voluntary exit from the ruling party after consultations with associates and family.
In a statement made available to the media, Eze who announced his latest move hinged his position on what he regarded as “the brazen ineptitude of the current regime led by the APC and President Tinubu which has undoubtedly tipped a precarious balance on the economy and overall livelihood of Nigerians coupled with the menace of terrorism and general insecurity across parts of the country.”
The former national publicity secretary equally hinted that he has now pitched tent with the African Democratic Congress, joining other notable politicians to propagate the ideologies of the new to the Nigerian public.
Recalling his roles in championing the APC during its formative years, Eze expressed regrets being among those who spoke to the conscience of Nigerians to accept the party and the promises it carried for the country. According to hime, the party lost direction and had been reduced to a congregation of minions and puppets,” under the current administration.
He stressed that, “We promised Nigerians that we will improve the value of our local currency to the Dollar, but the Naira has maintained a free-fall trajectory and abysmal performance in the international money market; We promised to erase insecurity in Nigeria.”
He said that despite the promises, there is general insecurity and challenges in the education sector, coupled with economic conditions of an average Nigerian.
“We promised to make our democracy one of the most outstanding in the world, instead we have turned our democracy not only a huge joke but a laughing stock as the country under Tinubu is being forced into a one party system; We promised to erase corruption but succeeded in making corruption and embezzlement of public funds a way of life under the current regime,” Eze alleged.
He also regretted that, as part of his campaign promises, President Tinubu assured Nigerians of uninterrupted power supply, saying “if he fails nobody should vote for him…”
Eze alleged further that Tinubu brought in “Akpabio and Nyesom Wike who were sworn enemies of the APC from the beginning to prove to Nigerians what undemocratic minds can achieve through dishonest craftiness.”
Eze tendered an unreserved apology to all Nigerians for all the inadequacies of the ruling party.
“The best I can show of my seriousness in my decision is to disengage myself from such an evil set-up that doesn’t mean well for Nigeria and Nigerians and join the African Democratic Congress ADC to collaborate with others to turn the fortunes of this country and restore a true and genuine democracy to us all,” Eze regretted.
“Today, no Nigerian can claim to be safe anymore as the country has been turned into a field of bloodbath. If we count daily, the number of Nigerians that are killed, they would be in hundreds. Suicide bombing are now back in our midst. Our soldiers are no longer safe as Boko Haram and their groups now overturn our barracks,” he said, adding that the spate of insecurity in the country has made many people both in the North East and North Central to escape from their farming settlements to stay in the Internally Displaced Camp.
He condemned the APC for clamping down on dissenting voice, claiming that this was “exemplified by what happened at Bakassa LGA of CRS where the meeting of ADC was disruptive by APC thugs.”
He also recall an incident involving the Edo State Governor who reiterated that no opposition political party will be tolerated to operate in Edo State and the recent attack against Peter Obi.
Eze alleged that in the attempt to decimate democracy and in absence of any sound National Assembly, laws are being ignited to undermine almost all the political parties in Nigeria.
Eze aligned himself with the position of Rt. Hon. Barr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi when he described the Tinubu-led government as “abysmally incompetent” and lacking the basic leadership skills required to safeguard citizens. Highlighting that Nigerians cannot continue to mourn while the government “lives lavishly and ostentatiously” without taking decisive action to end the country’s insecurity.
He quoted Amaechi as having said that, “This government is killing Nigerians. I repeat, President Tinubu’s government is killing Nigerians, literally destroying lives. He has failed in the most sacred duty of protecting the lives of the citizens of this country.
“The Monday bombings in Maiduguri is not just a tragedy, it is a damning indictment of a leadership that has grown complacent, incompetent, and indifferent to the sufferings and death of Nigerians to ravaging bandits.”
