The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the 2027 election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has visited the former minister of transportation and political rival in the party’s presidential primary, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Although details of the meeting of the duo were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, sources say it is not unconnected with efforts towards bridge building and promotion of mutual understanding.

Atiku won the recently concluded ADC primary, defeating Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to secure the party’s presidential ticket.

Following the party primary battle, Amaechi rejected and voiced his opposition to the outcome of the exercise before the declaration of results, alleging that the process was fraught with irregularities.

However, in his acceptance speech, Alhaji Atiku appealed to Amaechi and other aggrieved members of the party to forget their differences and forge a united front towards achieving victory in the 2027 general election.

Political watchers have also surmised that the meeting may be part of ongoing efforts by the ADC presidential candidate to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and secure Amaechi’s support ahead of the presidential poll in 2027.

Recall that while preparations were in for the primaries, Amaechi had spoken up to the effect that he was not in the race to be vice-presidential candidate, a remark analysts have interpreted to mean he is unlikely settle for less at any time.
