President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, even as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed confidence of securing a landslide victory at the polls.
Following this development, the names were presented on behalf of the President by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, at a ceremony attended by members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) led by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, members of the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the APC National Working Committee (NWC), state chairmen of the party, governors from Borno, Kebbi, Yobe, Kano and Kaduna states, as well as some of the party’s governorship candidates.
The submission formally confirms President Tinubu’s decision to retain Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 general election.
Recall that in June 2022, Tinubu selected Masari as his running mate, in placeholder capacity. The “placeholder” designation was intended to keep the joint ticket in place while Tinubu and the APC decided on the final VP nominee.
The president Tinubu later named Shettima as his substantive running mate.
The submission of the nomination forms marks the formal commencement of Tinubu’s bid for a second term on the APC platform, with Shettima again completing the party’s presidential ticket.
