The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Ireti Kingibe, has claimed that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been taking loans for the nation’s capital without due approval of the National Assembly.
Sen. Kingibe made the allegation yesterday, in an interview with Channels Television’s programme, ‘Political Paradigm.’
Kingibe spoke about the FCT administration, the Abuja master plan and the oversight responsibilities of the National Assembly of which she is a member.
The Senator pointed out that records from the Debt Management Office, DMO, indicated loans were taken for the FCT between August 2023 and March 2026,with the FCT Minister not observing the due process of appearing before the Senate to seek approval.
She said: “I am definitely saying Wike has been taking loans without the approval of the National Assembly.”
“I’m sorry to say, with all due respect to the Senate, of which I’m a member, we’re supposed to oversee him.
“We’re supposed to approve, and I have brought to the attention of the leadership of the Senate that the FCT is borrowing money.
“I have never seen Wike come to the National Assembly, come before the Senate, to ask for approval for anything. He comes before the FCT Committee, and that’s the only time it ever sat,” she alleged.
As at the time of filing this report, the FCT Minister had yet to respond to the allegation.
Recall that Senator Kingibe frosty relationship with the FCT Minister, Wike is not hidden from the public, as each of them, at any giving opportunity criticize the other.
On his part, Wike has been known never to support the Senatorial re-election of Kingibe, even as he publicly throws is weight behind Senator Aduda who is commonly seen around him, especially during major project commissioning in the federal capital.
