The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has raised the alarm over activities of some fraudulent entities parading themselves as staff of the organization and taking advantage to carry out unauthorized enumeration exercise involving persons purportedly affected by disasters in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

In a statement made available by the agency’s Press Unit on Tuesday, NEMA  “categorically disclaim the exercise and clarify that the individuals involved are neither staff of the Agency nor authorized to act on its behalf.”

The agency therefore stated that there are established procedures for all enumeration, assessment and registration exercises, which are carried out in conjunction with State Governments through their respective State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs), warning that, “Any exercise conducted outside this laid-down procedure remains unauthorized and invalid.”

The agency cautioned the public, particularly residents of the affected communities,” to disregard the purported exercise and to refrain from providing personal information or making any form of payment to the impersonators under the guise of registration, enumeration or eligibility for humanitarian assistance.”

NEMA used the opportunity to reiterate its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability and integrity in the discharge of its humanitarian mandate and assures the public that all legitimate interventions are conducted through due process and by duly authorized personnel.
