The dust is certainly yet to settle in the simmering political crisis rocking Rivers State, just as the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, ordered the State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, to commence impeachment proceedings against governor Siminilayi Fubara over his utterance.
The party’s Caretaker Committee, CTC, chairman in the State, Chief Tony Okocha, gave the directive at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.
Governor Fubara had on Monday declared the 27 members of the State Assembly as “non-existent”. The majority 27 members of the State Assembly are loyalists of the former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. And Governor Fubara and his political godfather, Wike, has been at loggerheads over who controls the political structures of the state.
On what motivated the latest development, the CTC chairman in the state declared that the decision of the party followed the comments made by governor Fubara that the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the political crisis of the state was only a political solution and not constitutional.
