Question of the Day:
‘THE BOSS, why is it that people who are hardworking and committed to a cause are not easily appreciated while those who join one secret cult or the other are easily appointed to positions of authority? Is it a crime to be good enough to stay off criminal activities’?

Introduction: Welcome to ASK THE BOSS, this week. Apart from this preface, what you are about to read was written well over six years ago. It remains unedited out there on Facebook, where it was originally published. However, very minimal editing has been effected here to attempt to give it a semblance of up-to-dateness.

2.0 The Master-Maker of all things (and all animals, higher and lower), the Virtuoso-Author and Finisher Extraordinaire, our One and Only Owner-God has made it possible for us to congregate yet again at this virtual rendezvous. My cardiac oblongata is red. Forgive my grandiloquence. It happens whenever I am so so so happy, as I am now.

2.0 To be sure, I am writing this at 2.30am to the minute; Sunday, 18th March 2018. I have just woken up having slept off about 6.30pm (it must have been the exhaustion from my involvement in the wedding of this millennium). Yes, Sir: Rev. Patrick Henry Edet took Inyene Sampson as wife. By the way, my overjoy isn’t rooted in the wedding per se; no, my joy stems, in the first place, from the audacity of the courage that birthed the wedding.

3.0 Father reminds all of us that we have only this one life, and we must and should make the best of the best of it. Or live or die (and stay dead) in perpetual regret, God forbid. Whenever the thought of a U-turn envelopes you with peace, no matter how too late you think it is or how too far you think you have gone, stop thinking about it: do it!
You may reread that slowly, thus: ‘Whenever the thought of a U-turn envelopes you with peace, no matter how too late you think it is or how too far you think you have gone, stop thinking about it: do it’!

4.0 With those few points of mine, I hope I have convinced you to break those prison walls only you can see. Some jailbreaks are allowed, naturally and legally. Break loose, man; break free, woman. It is your life: free it up; enough of fearing what they would say; enough of the doubt!

5.0 And, enough of that preachment: let’s get started. Today, yet again, it is someone writing in from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, who wins my attention. Ubong Creativity David writes, ‘THE BOSS, why is it that people who are hardworking and committed to a cause are not easily appreciated while those who join one secret cult or the other are easily appointed to positions of authority? Is it a crime to be good enough to stay off criminal activities’?

6.0 My Take: What a question, my dear YuBee! I suspect you already have your own answer to this rhetorical poser. Yet,

ASK THE BOSS -the socioemotional answering machine- cannot but attempt to offer a customised perspective. See, Da, this world is Satan’s; a bad, bad place!
7.0 Until God’s rule comes, you and I cannot do anything about the osmosis that strangles this life, where bad dwarfs and rules over good. Well, perhaps, except to pray and wait for divine intervention, divine change. My dear brother, since it seems you don’t want to (and must never) heed the silly, defeatist and arrogant strategem -join them if you can’t beat them- please remove your eyes and heart from what’s going on. More than anything else, that insulation would make you sane and focused enough to work hard while you pray and wait for that divine change.

8.0 That’s it. Good people should not only remain good but also learn that their deprivation-laden choice requires concomitant humility and patience. In the Bible, when Daniel didn’t want the king’s meat he was discreet about it. With the tables having turned, a few present-day Daniels now want the king’s meat; I ask: why can’t that desire be done inconspicuously?

9.0 One more thing, Mr. Creativity himself, apart from praying and waiting, I also need the few good people like you who are angling to take over to learn, when the time comes, from those you call ‘secret cultists’. When ‘a cultist’ or any bad person succeeds to power, they populate such public offices with co-members; that’s with people of own ‘club’ or ilk. No righteousness can make me to condemn that. I mean, were they to appoint people who were too holy to work for the victory; people with whom they don’t share beliefs and wavelength?

10.0 I call on all of the few so-called good people who manage to get to power to make positioning and empowering other good believers a deliberate policy throughout their tenure. That’s the only and fastest way to take over government eternally and ensure what I call the dynasty of good. The current practice of one good man or woman, who scrapes through to power, insisting on ridiculous conditionalities before signing on others of like faith, would only perpetuate the rule of the ‘bad people’ (for example, imagine a Christian Chairman of a Local Government turning down a potential Supervisor, who is a known devout Christian, just for not being satisfied with answers to whether such a one is Pentecostal, committed in church, tongue-speaking, etc). The fact that this approach is counterproductive is not rocket science: the spinster who rejects all those proposing to her, because she’s waiting for an angelic groom, is likely to end up with someone satanic!
You must read that again, slowly, and with deeper understanding (that is, away from marriage): ‘the spinster who rejects all those proposing to her, because she’s waiting for an angelic groom, is likely to end up with someone satanic’!

11.0 I am done. Pray, YuBee, pray: change cometh. Pray also that the change which comes and now is should be positive. Finally, pray also, since we have seen in this country how so much changed but remained the same, pray also that in the aftermath of the change so much should not remain the same.

God bless Nigeria!
