…say no vacancy in Brick House in 2027
By Kevin Pepple
A forum of gubernatorial candidates in Rivers State since 2011-2023 under the banner of Forum of Concerned and Patriotic Ex-Governorship Candidates have pledged their support for Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
In a communique issued after their meeting over the weekend in Port Harcourt, the guber candidates noted that revolving pattern of power sharing makes it expedient for Governor Fubara to complete his second tenure come 2027.
In this light, it warned those gunning to contest the governorship in 2027 to shelf such ambition,” anyone positioning themselves for power in this district before 2027 misreads the political climate… there is “no vacancy” in Government House until then.”
The group led by Prof O T Gillis- Harry as Chairman and its Secretary Chinedum Godwin David submitted that so far the governorship has gone round the two senatorial districts of Rivers West and Rivers East and that now it has come to Rivers South East equity demands it complete their tenure.
Said they :”A detailed analysis of political representation in the Rivers West and Rivers East Senatorial Districts. The Rivers West Senatorial District has been represented by Sir Dr. Peter Odili for eight years during two separate tenures from 1999 to 2007. Conversely, the Rivers East Senatorial District has a varied political history, with Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi serving for eight years from 2007 to 2015, followed briefly by Sir Celestine Omehia for six months in 2007, and most recently, Barrister Nyesom Wike, who held the position for eight years from 2015 to 2023. This district has a total representation spanning 16 years and six months, highlighting its diverse political landscape.
The forum therefore called for political unity and authentic representation in Rivers State, as it was ready to support Governor Fubara’s leadership and uphold the values of peace, development, and genuine representation for all citizens.
Lauding Governor Fubara’s dedication to fostering peace and a united Rivers State, the forum described the Opobo born politician as a ‘Field Marshal of Peace and Development,’”
The disposition of the governor the forum further observed has created consensus among the political class, since it has led to a stable governance and fostering continued growth in Rivers State.
It commended the Ijaw people for unity of purpose while acknowledging the Ijaw National Congress and the Ijaw Youth Council as resolute to quest for equity and stability in Rivers State.
On the other hand it denounced the Rivers Ijaw People Congress as a group of friends to a former governor currently serving as a minister, insisting that true representation should come from established bodies like the INC and IYC, rather than informal committees lacking broad support.
