Ayim Pius Ayim and the former Minister of Transportation under President Muhammadu Buhari, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for the successful burial ceremony and interment of the remains of the departed statesman.
The party stalwart expressed the confidence that at the appropriate time, the Igbos will pay back the former governor for his enormous sacrifices to the concerns of the Igbo people.
Similarly, he recognized and commended the inputs of the government and people of Abia State as the nation bid farewell to the former governor whom in his words “left when the counsel of men of his sort were needed to bring succour to the bleeding giant of Africa.”
Eze specially thanked the Ebonyi State governor, Senator Dave Umahi, President Bola Tinubu, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Governors of Anambra and Imo States, the Uburu Community and others for the roles they played before, during and after the burial, praying God to bless and recompense them all.
While paying tribute to late Dr. Onu, Eze said: “… this period, we remember and honour the life and legacy of late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, an astute, exemplary and dedicated public servant who left an indelible mark on our country’s political history. With unwavering commitment and unshakeable conviction, Dr. Onu worked tirelessly to promote justice, equality, and prosperity for all, a complete party man, who believed in fairness and equity.”
Eulogizing the late elder statesman further, Eze said Onu will be deeply missed, just as his impact in the nation’s democratic governance and technological advancement will continue to inspire and guide Nigerians.
The APC chief went spiritual, dramatic and satirical by appealing to the dec asked Onu “to do well to remind God of the sufferings of his people in Nigeria and hasten up the coming of Christ in order that the saints may enter into His Kingdom of everlasting glory where there is neither hunger nor crying, sorrow nor weeping as have enveloped the country today.”
Below is Eze’s prayer to Onu:
“Dear brother Ogbonnaya ONU, wherever you are please do be at peace as you ran a great race and your service to humanity will remain indelible to the world. We are proud of what you did and the type of life you lived.
“Exhibiting your honest and pure life you continue to wear white dresses in all your public life and God will not ignore your services to humanity and will ensure eternal rest for your soul.
“It is sad and unfortunate how you left us but I don’t know if you would have survived what our APC is causing Nigeria and Nigerians at the moment. People are dying in droves, those of us living can’t even boast of one single decent meal.
“You were aware of the effects of insecurity when you were here but these days you can’t even step out from your house without praying seriously.
“The he country is in a total mess and the Government is totally confused on what to do. Our present Government is now nicknamed T-Pain ensuring that Nigerians are in pain on daily basis that was not why we risked our lives for the formation of APC but that is our present plight.
“Most Nigerians that have cars have parked their cars because of high cost of fuel as we are now use to trekking.
“Please do remind Jesus Christ to beg God to come to our aid if not we all may be consumed.
“May you continue to rest peacefully until we join you not to depart from each other anymore
“Good-bye my brother and may your soul remain blessed forever.”
