The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company ,AEDC, has announced planned power interruptions in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to commence from January 6 to January 21, 2025, in a statement yesterday.

The scheduled project undertaken by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) involves relocation of the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway.

The statement by the AEDC listed areas to be affected as Lugbe, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, and some neighborhoods.

“Please be informed that there will be power interruptions from January 6-21, 2025, due to FCDA relocating the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway.

“The following areas will experience outages during the period of this exercise: Lugbe & environs, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex, Christ Embassy Church, American International School, Spring Court, American Embassy Quarters, EFCC HQ, Coca Cola, Railway, FMC, Parts of Apo, Parts of Gudu, Gbazango & environs, Parts of Kubwa, Bwari & environs, Parts of Jahi, Parts of Jabi, Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi & environs, and other parts of Abuja.”

“We regret any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,” the statement read.

Meanwhile some residents have reacted to the planned temporary outages during this period, saying it will make life difficult as the news hit them unexpectedly, especially after barely returning from the Christmas and New Year holidays.

A concerned resident of Jahi, Murka Alex expressed displeasure at the timing of the project saying, ” In my part of location, we have been experiencing shortage of water supply due to unknown reason. Now, we don’t know how this may further deepen the crisis.”

Another concerned resident of the FCT who craved to be anonymous said that the development is ill-timed when viewed against the period of the year when families are yet to settle down from holidays.

She went ahead to raise concerns about security around the FCT, calling on government to ensure adequate patrol, in order to forestall theft of pubic assets and destruction of infrastructures, apart from other criminal activities in the neighborhood.
