A yet to be publicly identified policeman has been apprehended and detained in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. following accidental discharged bullet from his gun which resulted in the untimely death of a young woman, Ifeoluwa Adekalu,
According to reports, policeman’s gun was said to have discharged a bullet at Okela Police Station in Ado Ekiti, killing the woman in front of a shop opposite the station on Thursday.
Saturday PUNCH reports that the police officer involved was on a visit to the station when the incident occurred.
“He was said to have released the bullets while in a joyous mood over the news of promotion of one of his colleagues.
“The victim was passing by when the bullet hit her in front of a shop opposite the police station. She was said to be returning from where she went to pay her accommodation rent,” said the source.
The Punch report stated that woman was rushed to a nearby hospital to save her life, but she later gave up the ghost.
The state Police Commissioner, Adewale Adeniran, who confirmed the incident, said that , “The officer in question has been disarmed and detained. The officer will face interrogations in line with Nigerian Police Act.”
