MRS filling stations, partner of Dangote Refinery, has jerked up the price of its premium motor spirit to N930 and N950 in Lagos and Abuja.
Reports say some of the notable filling stations in Abuja have started implementing the new price on Sunday. The new reality is an indication that the price of petrol has been increased between N70 and N80 per litre from the old price of N860 and N880 per litre in Lagos and Abuja.
This is coming barely a week after Dangote Refinery announced it had stopped sales of petrol in Naira, ( confirming an end to Naira – for-Crude deal). Following this development, the refinery on March 19 announced the suspension of the sale of its petroleum products in Naira.
While some filling stations have started selling at the current price as a result of increase in the pump price, the PMS retail pump price at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited remained at N880 per litre in Abuja, as of Saturday evening.
Some motorists who reacted to the development stated that initially when Dangote Refinery reduced fuel pump price, they had thought this would continue until the NNPCL close the window on Naira for crude deal, making the refinery to shop for crude outside the country and exporting refined product in dollar tote US and Saudi market.
