The Covenant University has been licensed by the National Universities Commission, NUC, to operate an e-learning platform, known as the ‘Covenant Centre for Open and Distance e-learning (CCODeL),’ towards broadening admission space in the country and beyond.

Based on the license granted, the University had scheduled to begin with the Computer Science Programme.

In a statement released by the Communications Department of the institution, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo, lamented that, four out of every five admission seekers into tertiary institutions do not often get admission into the university.

The VC expressed confidence that the university’s newly accredited distance e-learning platform will help address issues of admission gap in the country as well as foster educational development in Africa.

He observed that, the development will not only enable learners to enroll but learn at their own convenience without the barrier of distance or the commitments associated with classroom settings.

The VC said that the e-learning platform approval is a milestone in paving the way for more access to quality education beyond the standard classroom operations, “as it underscores our commitment to innovation, excellence, and inclusivity in higher education.”

“The VC stated that, before now, the university was only able to admit one out of every five persons into its computer science programme, consequent on the post-COVID pandemic, resulting in the high demand for ICT related education, and certifications.

“Adebayo stated further that, “For us, we welcome this and it implies that every applicant who meets our admission requirements, but was not admitted, can still key into our open and distance e-learning programme.”

The VC also emphasized that Covenant University is one of the leading universities in Africa, founded on a Christian Mission Ethos; born and driven by a vision to raise a new generation of leaders and to reinstate the dignity of the black race.

He stressed that the University is committed to remaining at the cutting edge of learning that is based on the Total Man driven curriculum.

.Covenant University is a private Christian university in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. It is affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities, and National Universities Commission.
