The three-day shopping festival slated for December 23 to 25 organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in partnership with Chain Reaction Ltd. has finally started at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
In a statement Sunday, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, disclosed that the 72-hour non-stop festival would give both residents and tourists a rare shopping experience for the first time.
The statement by Aregbe explained that the event would be filled with incredible deals, exclusive discounts and a world-class shopping experience, calling on local and international shoppers to take advantage of the unmatched retail experience expected to showcase the rich and diverse culture of the country.
“Lagos Shopping Festival will feature over 500 vendors, representing a vibrant mix of local artisans and internationally-renowned brands. It will offer a wide array of products, including fashion, electronics, beauty items, home decor, gourmet food and more. Whether you are looking for the perfect holiday gifts, the latest gadgets, or unique fashion finesse, you will discover something special at every turn,” said the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture.
But it is not exactly clear what measure of crowd control management would be deployed in the event of surge in patronage to avoid emergency situation.
A public commentator, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adeolu stated that this may be unlikely because the event was not organized to distribute free food items, speaking on the sidelines of the events that led to the death of score of Nigerians in Abuja, Oyo and Anambra.
According to the Washington Post 67 Nigerians died in stampedes during the three Christmas charity events across the country in the he past week, many of them were children.
