The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Limited has stated that the Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC, will undergo a maintenance shutdown, starting from May 24, 2025.
A statement by the NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, on Saturday informed that the shutdown is part of a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment to engender optimal performance of the refinery.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) wishes to inform the general public that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a planned maintenance shutdown.
“This scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment will commence on May 24,2025.
“We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure the maintenance and assessment activities are carried out efficiently and transparently.
“NNPC Ltd remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable energy security,” explained the statement.
NNPCL promised to provide Nigerians with further updates through it’s official channels, including its website, media platforms, and public statements.
Recall that the Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC underwent similar shutdown in December 2024, shortly after operations resumed following a $1.5 billion rehabilitation. This is apart controversies that once trailed its recent resumption of operations under Mele Kyari leadership as the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, when the company’s production capacity became flawed by persistent failures to refine product as announced.
