..European Leaders react to US Operation in Venezuela

Following the military action that took place, United States President Donald Trump stated that the America launched strikes on Venezuela and captured its President Nicolas Maduro, declaring that his country will take charge of the affairs in Venezuela “until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition”
Trump added that the US oil companies will fix Venezuela’s “broken infrastructure” and “start making money for the country.
He also revealed that no US servicemen were killed in the operation and the US is “ready” to stage a second “and much larger” attack on the country if need be.
As a proof, Trump earlier shared a photo he said was of Maduro on board the USS Iwo Jima. The image showed him blindfolded and wearing ear defenders
Recall that Maduro was indicted in New York on drugs and weapons charges –with the US attorney general assuring he’ll “face the full wrath of American justice”. Maduro has previously denied being the leader of drug cartel
Since the crisis, Venezuela has declared a national emergency, denouncing “extremely serious military aggression”
VP Delcy Rodriguez says Maduro is the only President, counters Trump
Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has been speaking on state television the last few minutes. She stressed that Nicolas Maduro is Venezuela’s only president. Her remarks came after US President Donald Trump earlier said she had been sworn as the country’s new leader, after Maduro was captured by US forces overnight.
European Leaders react
Some European leaders have started voicing their reactions about the US military action in Venezuela.
United Kingdom: Prime Minister Keir Starmer clarified that the UK was not involved in the operation and he would like to speak to Trump “to establish the facts first” before commenting further.
France: President Emmanuel Macron on its part has called for the Maduro’s 2024 opposition candidate – Edmundo González – who he refers to as “president”, to oversee a “peaceful, democratic” transition
Germany: Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Maduro “led his country to ruin”, adding that the government is taking time to decide if US actions broke international law.
Italy: According to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni “external military action is not the way to put an end to totalitarian regimes”, but added that it is “legitimate” to defend against “attacks on one’s own security”
Spain: Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez simply said Spain “did not recognise” Maduro’s regime, but “nor will it recognise an intervention that violates international law”. He calls for respect for the UN Charter.
European Union: High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas emphasized that the EU “has repeatedly stated” that Maduro lacks legitimacy, but calls “for restraint” and a respect for international law.
