A CNG-powered car has exploded at the NIPCO filling station in Aduwawa, Benin, Edo State capitals, on Wednesday leaving three victims seriously injured, including a motorist with severe eye damage.
Meanwhile, the Presidential CNG Initiative ,PCNGI, has expressed sympathy with victims of the accident.
In a statement on Thursday, the Presidential CNG Initiative sympathized with the affected persons.
In order to put the record straight, PCNGI stated that the incident involved an illegally modified vehicle that failed to observe safety protocols, based on its investigation which indicated that the cylinder was improperly welded and was neither approved for CNG use.
According to the body,“The police and regulatory authorities are conducting a thorough inquiry, and we are collaborating with them.
It stressed that what happened had highlighted the importance of PCNGI, the upcoming Nigeria Gas Vehicle Monitoring System, which aims to enhance safety in the CNG ecosystem.
PCNGI called for support for the regulatory initiative and ensure compliance, cautioning that only accredited conversion centers should be patronized, while the safe handling of CNG, like the PMD, should be deemed crucial for the safety of all.
