Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stressed that the state is entering a new era of unity, peace, and progress, urging the judiciary to remain steadfast in upholding justice and protecting innocent citizens from suffering injustice.
Speaking at the 2025/2026 Legal Year Thanksgiving Service held at the Corpus Christi Cathedral, Port Harcourt, on Friday, October 17, 2025, Governor Fubara declared that: “We are marking a new beginning after the reconciliation and peace in our State. I strongly believe whatever we have lost, now that we are together, we will regain those grounds. The progress and development we have all yearned for, I strongly believe we will not deviate from it.”
He assured that the executive, legislature, and judiciary—along with all stakeholders—will continue to work as a united team to achieve the shared vision of a greater Rivers State.
“I thank everyone for your support, prayers, and belief in one Rivers State. This is the one State where everyone can sit and praise the Almighty together,” the governor added.
Governor Fubara also commended the Church for its spiritual guidance and contributions to peace and development in the State, noting that its prayers have been instrumental to the prevailing harmony.
Earlier in his homily, the Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, Most Reverend Patrick Eluke, charged members of the judiciary to uphold their sacred duty as ministers in the temple of justice.
He emphasized that as a profession built on fairness, equity, justice, and integrity, both the Bar and the Bench must operate with moral uprightness and patience in the process of dispensing justice.
The first Bible reading, taken from 2 Chronicles 19:5–9, was read by Governor Fubara, while the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, took the second reading from Psalm 100:1–5.
A highlight of the Thanksgiving Service was the presentation of special gifts to Governor Fubara, his deputy Prof. (Mrs.) Ngozi Odu, the Chief Judge Justice Amadi, and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Chike Amaewhule, by Bishop Eluke on behalf of the Church.
