Months after losing two of his bosom friends to a tragic auto crash in Nigeria, the former heavyweight world champion, Anthony Joshua is set to relocate from the United Kingdom to Dubai.

Notwithstanding the crisis rocking the United Arab Emirates, in which Dubai currently has its fair share, as a result of ongoing war involving the United States of America, Israel and Iran, the 36-year-old pugilist has confirmed his relocation- to become a resident of the UAE city.

Despite the odds, AJ as Anthony Joshua is commonly known, still opted to push through with change of his citizenship.

Indications also emerged as Per Mail Sport, paperwork filed on Friday for his £150 million business empire revealed the upcoming relocation. Joshua is legally required to state the country he lives in.

Part of the reason the Watford-born boxer changed his residency may include the fact that Dubai is so appealing for its tax-related benefits. The city has no income tax. The Watford-born boxer changed his residency.

Joshua would’ve been liable to pay £10.1 million in 2024 and £6.3 million in 2023 in UK tax on his dividend payments. Sparta Promotions, Joshua’s company, made a profit of £20.396 million and paid £6.65 million in 2024.

His companies, Sparta Promotions Limited and 258 Investments Limited both show the change in the paperwork. Joshua is known to be a regular visitor to the city, and is now making the big life decision to move there.

Joshua, who was born in Watford to Nigerian parents, won a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and has since been awarded OBE and MBE honours,

Above all, his main reason for shifting base to Dubai follows the tragic road accident in Nigeria last year, in which his two close friends, personal trainer Kevin ‘Latz’ Ayodele and long-time therapist Sina Ghami, were killed.

His current decision makes AJ the latest high-profile wealthy Briton to relocate overseas, following in the steps of other greats like Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou: who both live in Monaco, and Pimlico Plumbers tycoon Charlie Mullins, who is in Marbella.
