Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party -nPDP and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has condemned in strong terms action by a group of youths in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State who allegedly made disparaging comments against the former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and Sir Celestine Omehia, both former governors of the state.
The party chieftain’s condemnation came on the heels of statements attributed to a group claiming to be campaigning for the APC ahead of the upcoming local government election in the state.
The youths in question, who are loyal to some political interests had threatened to send former governors Amaechi and Omehia on retirement from active politics after the 2027 general elections. The controversial comments were reportedly made by one Obinna Ekem during a gathering in Omagwa community.
In a statement made available to journalists by Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, (a copy of which was made available to The Pinnacle Times), the party chieftain described the comments as “the ranting of vulnerable adults devoid of basic life skills and lacking value.”
Eze cautioned the youths to refrain from being manipulated into soiling the reputations of prominent Ikwerre sons whose contributions have been significant, they should stay focus on acquiring relevant skills to improve their living standards.
He noted that former governors Amaechi and Omehia are highly respected figures and their legacies have continued to speak among the people, adding that the group’s behavior was unacceptable.
The statement by the APC chieftain also addressed matters concerning the upcoming local government election scheduled for August 30, 2025 in the state, referring to the exercise as “unlawful” and “an embarrassment to established electoral rules in Nigeria.”
Eze also expressed the conviction that the said election would be overturned by the courts due to its numerous flaws and non-compliance with existing regulations.
Referring to the numerous lawsuits challenging the legality of the election, Eze urged Rivers people to disassociate themselves from the planned “charade,”
He cautioned the group he referred to as “rampaging young men parading as APC members” against making reckless and disparaging statements against individuals like Omehia and especially Amaechi, whom he said had been committed to always helping build the APC.
Eze decried the current state of APC, saying that the party “strayed from its foundational mandate, becoming a disappointing nightmare for Nigerians,” emphasizing that it has been “overrun by political bandits and buccaneers.”
