Chelsea’s sponsorless shirts may be going away soon, if recent reports of the club pursuing a few potential front-of-shirt sponsors prove to be a) true, and b) fruitful.
According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea are “in talks” with Qatar Airways “and two other major airlines”, presumably over a deal that would last more than just the one season we managed to construct as a last resort with Infinite Athlete last year.
Sky’s report does not say who the other two airlines are, but according to Sportico’s Łukasz Bączek, they are Riyadh Air and Turkish Airlines. The former is a familiar name from the last couple years, while the latter was a hot rumor nearly a decade ago, before we struck a deal with Yokohama Tyres.
But it sounds like Qatar Airways would be our first option, and they are certainly no strangers to spending big to advertise through football, having recently struck a £70m per year deal with UEFA. We won’t be able to command anything of the sort, but if we get to around the £40m mark as last year, we should be okay.
