Dangote Petroleum Refinery is currently test running for petrol production, with full operation expected to commence by mid-September, according to Reuters.

The report cited a note by IIR Energy, an oil industry monitor, the publication on Wednesday said the date could be extended further.

The report quoted an IIR note to clients that “it is possible that there could be further extensions”.

Although, the chief branding and communications officer of Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, is yet to comment on the report.

The report contradicted an earlier promise made , Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, who said on May 18, that from June, the refinery would begin producing petrol, and by implication, the country would no longer import the product again.

And, in June, Alhaji Dangote stated that due to a minor delay, the refinery would commence petrol supply in July.

However, on July 15, Dangote refinery further postponed the commencement of petrol supply to August.

On August 14, certain reports claimed that the delivery date of the petrol supply had been postponed, at this point, Chiejina denied further delay to petrol output.

He said that news making rounds postponement are false and the refinery is on track to produce petrol as planned in the month of August.

On August 13, there was a dramatic twist when the refinery declared that it had not fixed its petrol price at N600 per litre ahead of when the product would be available, putting a question mark on the actual readiness of the refinery to start supplying petroleum product amid high expectations from Nigerians, who had hoped that this would bring a turn around in terms of significant reduction in the pump price of petrol
