..says good former VP didn’t pick Wike as Running Mate
By Olawale Lamina
Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, member of APC Legacy Projects Media Team and former National Publicity Secretary, nPDP has alleged that the likes of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Chief Bode George and some PDP Governors, are doing a hatchet job towards ensuring that President Bola Tinubu is re-elected in 2027.
In a statement released to newsmen in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Eze observed that with the way the ruling party just succeeded in coercing many of the opposition political leaders to join its fold, it is now imperative for other political parties to unite and form a formidable platform to wrest power from the APC.
While describing as sad and unfortunate, the unstatesman (sic.) and unruly behaviour of Wike, after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had vehemently refused to pick him as his Vice presidential candidate prior to the 2023 general elections, maintaining that no matter and whatever Wike thinks he is today, “he cannot fit into Atiku’s political portfolio.”
The erstwhile spokesperson of the defunct nPDP, submitted that recent statements credited to Wike, Bode George and the PDP governors, are suggestive of the fact that they are subtly working for Tinubu to ensure his re-election in 2027 not minding the suffering Nigerians are currently going through because of the inept governance of the country by the incumbent .
Eze alleged that it was no surprise to him that the FCT minister is yet to overcome the shock of his dismal performance at the PDP presidential primaries as well as his outright rejection by Atiku, in his choice of VP slot.
“Since Atiku demystified and deflated Wike’s over bloated political ego, the FCT Minister has resorted to pouring invectives on Atiku, one of Africa’s greatest democrats,” he said adding that if Atiku had chosen Wike as his Vice presidential candidate, the former Rivers State Governor would have done everything both normal and criminal for Atiku to be elected President.
He alleged that what many failed to comprehend was that Atiku would not have been alive to serve out his term “knowing the nature of deadly, devious and politics of bitterness that Wike is synonymous with.”
With such an uncultured fellow as the Vice President of Nigeria, what would have been the image of Nigeria?” Eze queried.
But he expressed relief saying that, “For Atiku to have listened to me and many other patriotic Nigerians in rejecting Wike as his vice president, he has done a great relief both to his life and that of Nigerians” Eze added.
He urged Nigerians not to take any statement from Wike as to why he was rejected by Atiku, too serious, stressing that such self serving statements are borne out of frustration and meaningless and, as such have no effect on whatever may be the future political plans of Atiku Abubakar.
Eze equally commended the former VP for letting Wike to know that he is a traitor working to undermine the PDP.
He quoted Atiku as saying that Wike is bereft of moral authority to discuss integrity, calling him Traitor-General of Nigeria.
He counselled that, rather than fidget over the move by Atiku to form a credible and formidable coalition, the Tinubu administration and Wike in particular should have tightened their loose belts and provide genuine democratic governance that will have direct impact on Nigerians and shore up the economy, and not making 2027, the administration’s sole objective.
The former spokesperson of nPDP, insisted that indeed there was nothing absurd for Atiku to postulate that a coalition remains the only way to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
And, in another breath, while reacting to the statement by elder Bode George, that PDP will be finally buried should Atiku pick the PDP presidential slot, Chief Eze urged Nigerians to ignore such an opinion,as the speaker only “speaks from both sides of the mouth. ”
“As much as Nigerians are aware of the dirty type of politics that Bode George plays even at his age, he should tell Nigerians apart from Atiku, who else in PDP has a Nationwide support base to wrest power from a well coordinated figure like Tinubu.
“It is unfortunate that Bode George who ensured that PDP and Labour Party failed in Lagos and refused to support PDP during the 2023 general elections is out to replicate same dastardly role come 2027, to ensure that the woes facing Nigeria under a very confused administration are multiplied, but God will not allow him and his cohorts to succeed this time around.” Eze expressed concern.
On activities of some PDP Governors, Eze hinted that their game plan is well known, alleging that it was ” all to ensure that either PDP doesn’t present a presidential candidate come 2027 and if they decide to field anybody, they will ensure that such a candidate can’t even win one Local Government area in the country.”
The party chieftain maintained that, “The position of the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, that the party would not participate in any coalition or merger” depicts the high level of systemic corruption being perpetuated by those occupying leadership positions in the country.
Continuing in his assessment and calling on the PDP governors to have a rethink, he said: “It is now obvious that the PDP Governors are not interested in mitigating the negative effects Nigerians are passing through as a result of bad policies of the present administration.
“Their preoccupation is accessing a window of opportunity for selfish bargains that will guarantee their re-election, not minding party affiliation.
“I ask the PDP Governors; if the opposition parties and blocs do not unite in principle and action, can the APC be dislodged out of power in 2027?
“The truth is that Nigerians are now more aware of the dirty and selfish style of politics being played by some opposition governors. The strategy of deliver me in my State and have my support at the Presidential election is in public domain.”
Eze concluded by saying that his position , like Atiku remains that when the governors, or some of them, realize that the coalition is a project with its own momentum and a time that has come, they will align properly.
