The United States chapter of the ruling party All Progressives Congress, APC-USA, has urged Nigerians to remain focused on defending democratic values and supporting the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration as the country marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
In a statement its chairman, Professor Tai Balofin, APC-USA described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic experience and a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy heros, activists and Nigerians in the struggle for civil rule.
The APC-USA USA chapter congratulated President Tinubu, saying he remains one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, while commending his administration’s initiatives to reposition the country through ongoing economic and governance reforms.
The diaspora group noted that June 12 symbolizes the resilience, courage and determination of Nigerians who stood for democratic governance, urging Nigerians to continue to play active roles in strengthening democratic institutions and protecting the nation’s democratic gains.
The APC-USA identified with the economic hardships confronting majority of Nigerians, calling on the citizens to exercise patience and continue to support policies which aim to bring about long-term economic growth and national development.
The group emphasized that sustainable reforms require difficult but necessary sacrifices.
The group’s chairman stressed that efforts by President Tinubu through the policies in place would ultimately create opportunities, improve living standards and place the country on a stronger development path.
Prof. Balofin noted that despite existing challenges in governance and the electoral system, stating that Nigeria’s democracy is worth defending.
The APC-USA chapter chairman stressed the need political leaders across party lines to put national interest first and above personal and partisan considerations towards achieving national development.
It also challenged the National Orientation Agency, NOA, to intensify public enlightenment initiatives, particularly among young people, to improve awareness of government programmes including youth empowerment and national development.
