Some youths in Niger State have gone ahead to commence the nationwide protests anticipated to begin from August 1 in all the states, against appeals from the government.

The nationwide protests tagged differently, #EndBadGovermentinNigeria; Protest of Rage and scheduled to start from August 1 to 10 had been planned by angry organizers in response to the harsh economic conditions facing majority of the people.

But, surprisingly youth from Niger State in large number were seen on Monday morning pouring out into the streets, with placards and singing in protest against the nation’s poor living conditions.

Some of the placards bear inscriptions as,‘Hardship Is Unbearable, ‘Enough is Enough,’ ‘We Are Not Slaves In Our Country’; ‘ Fuel Subsidy must End Now,: ‘Stop Anti-Masses Policies,’ among others.

It would be recalled that, last week , the state governor, Mohammed Bago, had placated residents of the state with welfare packages to calm frail nerves and ensure they shelve any form of protest.

Bago had offered a N20,000 wage allowance for state and local government civil servants as well as ordered the immediate release of 50,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains to be sold at subsidised rates to reduce prevalent hunger among residents.

The protesters, mainly youths, marched through the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in Suleja local government area (LGA) of Niger state.

More details are still being expected in the wake of the protest which may likely the the first to take place in the country ahead of schedule.
