Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has revealed a plan by his government to set up a panel to probe the eight years administration of the immediate past governor and “godfather,” Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Governor Fubara made the disclosure on Monday, following the swearing in Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of the state after the latter’s screening and confirmation by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Rivers State House of Assembly.
Fubara appealed to Iboroma to, as a matter of urgency constitute a panel of enquiry to look into the activities of the state government under Wike, in the last 8 years.
Should this happen, it would be a case of history repeating itself in the state.
It would be recalled that, the former governor Wike made similar moves against his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, when the former set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry, led by Justice George Emereji, to look into the sale of Rivers State assets, while at the end, the commission convicted former governor Amaechi over alleged sales of the state assets amounting to over N52 billion.
Fubara had told the Assembly members that the state was in a difficult situation where the political impasse had become intractable.
The governor accused his traducers of working to sabotage his government, even as he had believed that the crisis in the state would be resolved amicably. He vowed to make tough decisions moving forward no matter how hurtful they would seem.
He also reacted to comments credited to the former Attorney-General of the state, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), and his counterpart in the Ministry of Works Alabo George-Kelly. He alleged a sabotage by the former Attorney General, , accusing him sabotaging his administration by filing nolle prosequi against the interest of the state.
