Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced the immediate activation of his administration’s planned comprehensive renovation of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex following Monday’s fire incident that affected a section of the facility.

Speaking during an on-the-spot inspection of the damaged section on Tuesday, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost in the unfortunate incident.

“It is really unfortunate, but we give God all the glory that no life was lost,” the Governor said, noting that the Creche section of the Secretariat, which caters for the babies of civil servants, was the most affected.

He explained that the Secretariat’s renovation had long been on his government’s agenda, adding that the fire outbreak has made its implementation both urgent and inevitable.

“What is very important is that the renovation and refurbishing of this foremost State Secretariat has been on the drawing board. With this particular incident, there won’t be any reason not to continue it. Whatever it will require for this government to commence the process, we will immediately swing into action,” Governor Fubara affirmed.

The Governor commended civil servants for their continued support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving their working environment.

He also highlighted his administration’s prior investment in revamping the State Fire Service, which played a crucial role in containing the blaze. “Before now, we had invested in refurbishing the fire service. Imagine what would have happened if we didn’t have a formidable and functional Fire Service,” he said.

Governor Fubara assured that his government will continue to take proactive measures that uplift the people of Rivers State and promote their wellbeing.
