The Federal Government has just formally agreed to pay for the incoming Super Eagles coach, apart from the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, earlier securing a sponsor to offset the salaries of a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles,
An official of the NFF who preferred to be anonymous had made the disclosure. He revealed that money can no longer pose any challenge as it concerns the payment of the salary of the new Super Eagles coach, after receiving an assurance from the Presidency that government will be taking care.
The Sports Minister John Enoh had previously warned that paying the salaries of a foreign coach was the responsibility of the NFF. But it had always been difficult for the NFF to shoulder the financial responsibility of paying foreign coach. It is interesting to know that the initial budget of the NFF for a new foreign coach was put at between $40,000 and $50,000, The Pinnacle Times can confirm.
With adequate financial support coming from the federal government, the NFF can increase the budget.
News of assurance of major financial boost may not be unconnected with why the NFF technical director, Augustine Eguavoen had gone ahead to inform that a new coach for the Super Eagles will be named before this weekend.
As a result of the negotiations so far, former Sweden coach Janne Andersson looks favoured to clinch the Super Eagles top offer.
