By Hussein J-Isah
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has issued a warning to roadside beggars to stop congesting the city or risk arrest by enforcement agents of the FCTA
The minister who stated this on Monday at Katampe during the flag-off ceremony of the construction of the access road to the Design and Construction of 40 Judges’ Quarters, expressed concern over the number of beggars on the road and noted that the spectacle smacks of threat to security in the federal capital city.
The minister therefore issued an ultimatum which would expire by October 27, 2024 to the concerned persons to vacate the streets.
At the event, he disclosed before his audience how he revoked the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of some plots of land allocated to German construction company, Julius Berger, in the Katampe District in the FCT.
Speaking about the project, the minister informed that 70% of funds required had been released after its approval by the Federal Executive Council last month. He said out of the 40 units to be constructed, 20 will be allocated to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and 10 to the Court of Appeal.
Dignitaries at the event include the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, President of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, among other personalities.
