This is the debut of ASK THE BOSS in this space. I believe it is going to be exciting communing with you, on this turf. The column has been there for quite a while, only new here. I love meeting new people.
In the main, ASK THE BOSS is simply a Q & A vehicle that allows for you, the reader, to take advantage of bhnboss@gmail.com. Through it, you send me life-related posers such as socio-economic, -emotional, and -political challenges that bedevil your life. I shall always attempt an answer, out here and on Facebook. Please ensure to plead anonymity if that’s what you want, otherwise always feel free to send a beautiful photo of you along with your name and address.
To the business of the day now. I am treating just one entry which, unfortunately, must be rendered anonymously. I hope the fact that an entry is anonymous doesn’t ‘water down’ its significance. Let’s play …
1.0 ‘The Boss, I’m a 29 year old lady engaged to be married next month. I just got a job and was privileged to be among the three persons to go for the professional training that the company offers once in a while. The issue is that, the six month training requires travelling and collides with my wedding date. I want to get married and I also need the job.
2.0 ‘What do I do, The Boss? By the way, this has been such an immense column to me. I pray you come to my rescue; this being the first time I have written in’. Signed: Anonymous, Jos, Plateau State!
3.0 MY TAKE: Dear Miss Anony, permit me to tee off in a lighter mood. You know, this is not a question you should ask me, and even if, not publicly. Do you want your fiancé to swear on my head? Just leave me alone, please!
4.0 But seriously, we all find ourselves between a rock and a hard place from time to time. Your case might seem small but it is a Catch-22. In my village, we call your dilemma, ‘aben ami afo adia, aben anko akuk mfo utak fien’. Since Jos is not in Akwa Ibom, it behoves me to translate what I just said, right?
5.0 Here you are: your case is the more you look the less you see! Listen, there are two, three basic sensible ways to resolve your puzzle. Before I share them with you, let me shock you: fast and pray. Confirm that God has sanctioned the marriage.
6.0 You never know with some of these signs! After you have received the all-clear embedded in the peace that will descend on your heart, try one of the following steps. One, discuss with your man. Every sane husband won’t mind a working spouse.
7.0 Her income can come in handy, most often than not. It doesn’t matter how financially-secure(d) the man thinks he is. However, be careful if you are the one who angled for the marriage/wedding. Meeting minds with him on this matter may inadvertently give him ideas!
8.0 The second window through which to look at this matter is the office. Confide in one of the members of management staff known to be a good person. You never know, they can push a button or two to help you. Some great answers in life come in small wraps!
9.0 And number three, if options one and two fail to break the ice, revert to your man. You will need him for the final onslaught because you may have to dash in for the wedding on its eve and thereafter, off with him on honeymoon in the city where your training holds! Or, you leave the job or whatever else you wish to walk away from. May God help you!
Conclusion: My, my, my! That’s how best I can untie the knot. I enjoin ASK THE BOSS fans who have more Solomonic answers to send them in immediately so that we can rescue the anonymous soul in Jos from high blood pressure. Together, we are better, greater and stronger.
God bless Nigeria!
