Adanma Luke, the producer of the upcoming movie in which the late actor, Junior Pope, was supposed to be featured, has surrendered to the police.
Pope, the Cameroon born actor, died on Wednesday, after he fell into the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state, on his way to a movie location.
The film star was in company of some other actors and crew members when the incident occurred.
On Friday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra state police spokesperson, while speaking on the development, noted that Luke was not arrested but submitted herself to the law enforcement agents.
Ikenga added that the two boat drivers were also in custody amid an investigation into Pope’s death. He said that, “She was not arrested, she came by herself, and her statement was obtained.”We also have in custody the two boat drivers and interrogation is still ongoing.
“Early this morning, we have recovered the other three missing bodies. Further details shall be communicated please,” Ikenga added.
It is worth noting that the Actors Guild of Nigeria ,AGN, had earlier suspended all movie shootings involving riverine locations, following the death of Pope.
Emeka Rollas, President of the AGN, also warned filmmakers not to work with Luke “until further notice.
Recall that, Pope, was confirmed dead a few hours after he was said to have been resuscitated.It was gathered he was in the company of some other actors.
“Yes. It happened at Asaba, River Niger. He had a fatal boat mishap. Unfortunately, he lost his life with four others that have not been identified yet,” Abubakar Yakubu, the national secretary of the Actors Guild of Nigeria ,AGN, said. A few hours later, Yakubu said the actor “is alive but in a coma.”
He also disclosed that a medical team was called to resuscitate Pope. According to the AGN secretary, the film star was receiving treatment in the hospital. Yakubu then stated that, “Yes. He is alive. God has done it for us. He was in a coma all this while.
“Fortunately, when the medical team called, they said there is still life in him and they resuscitated him.
“Presently he is in the hospital now. Receiving further treatment. I can confirm that he is alive,” he added.
However, Rollas confirmed the death of Pope on Thursday. Pope, hours before his death, shared a video clip of himself on a boat on his way to the movie location. “See me lamenting….The risk we take to entertain you; crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket… Na wahooooo Who does that ??,” the actor captioned the Instagram post.
Pope became a professional actor in 2006. He usually played the role of a bodyguard, palace attendant, and servant in movies.
In 2007, the deceased actor gained fame after acting in the movie ‘Secret Adventures’. He also starred in hundreds of Nollywood movies and won several awards for his craft.
