Arsenal fought hard for a point at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, with the Premier League title rivals playing out a pretty dull stalemate.
Liverpool’s victory over Brighton meant they returned to the top of the table before kick-off at the Etihad, and Reds supporters would’ve been hoping for a draw between the two title rivals.
There was little to separate the two sides in what was a cagey first half, with City further hindered by injuries as Nathan Ake trudged off midway through the opening period. The hosts suffocated Arsenal, but their sound defensive structure meant David Raya wasn’t tested. City handed them moments to pounce in transition, but the Gunners were far from ruthless in the final third. Gabriel Jesus came close on a couple of occasions.
A string of challenges ignited a spark at the start of the second half, with Arsenal hunting Sky Blue shirts with more vigour closer to Stefan Ortega’s goal.
Changes were run as the contest progressed, but an air of caginess remained prevalent with neither manager keen on tasting defeat. It was always going to be a bout defined by a moment or two, and while both teams threatened to produce a killer blow late on, it never arrived.
Liverpool fans got their wish, although both teams will be pretty content with a point apiece.
