As the people of the ancient town of Iju-Odo in Okitipupa Local Government of Ondo State get ready to receive visitors from across the globe to mark the 71st anniversary of the oldest secondary school in the southern region of the state, Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, MMGS, which is seated in their community, arrangements are on top gear to making it the best reunion in the history of the school.

In the reunion tagged, ‘Giving Back: Sustaining Our Stewardship of Excellence,’ which is expected to last for three days beginning from Friday 21st February, so many programmes that are expected to titillate the fancy of every alumnus, students and staffers and make the events memorable have been outlined.

Beginning with arrival and registration on the first day, the same day will witness cultural display by students to welcome their guests after which the principal of the school, teachers and prefects will guide the visitors on a tour round the school. Inter House quiz/debate competition will follow with stakeholders meeting while an evening cocktail and networking will round the day off.

Opening the second day with medical outreach, the reunion lecture will follow with resource persons doing justice to how stewardship excellence can be sustained vis-a-vis giving back to where one has benefited so much. With the basic function of giving back to the society, the lecture will without doubt bestow on many alumni of the school, the culture of giving back to the old school so as to restore it to its pride of place.

Other activities earmarked for the second day include developmental fundraising, award presentation, inauguration of new national executives of MMGSOSA, inter house sports, anniversary party and social night while the last day is exclusively for thanksgiving/church service and departure.

In order to ensure the success of these lined up activities so as to make the reunion glorious, there has been collaborative effort between the executive and the planning committee which has so far given birth to smooth and effective management of programmes.

Earlier, following the successful conclusion of the association’s national election as announced by the Chairman of the Election Sub-Committee, Mr Sunday Adeniyi Akinseye, the association’s President, Mr Teniola Faromoju having charged the elected executives to continue in the transformation agenda of his administration, he promised to support them as they take over mantle of leadership.

“As the outgoing administration, we take immense pride in the progress that has been made in infrastructure renewal, student support, and alumni engagement over the past years. However, the work of transformation is never truly finished. I trust that the new leadership team will carry the torch forward, expand the scope of impact, and strengthen the bonds of camaraderie that make this association truly special.

“Please know that you have my full support as you take on this mantle. Leadership is not a solitary journey, and I encourage you to draw from the collective strength of this great body, seek counsel when needed, and lead with wisdom, vision, and integrity.”
