The Kano state government says as part of efforts towards alleviating the plight of the vulnerable, it has sponsored the mass wedding of over 100 couples drawn from vulnerable groups across 14 local councils.
This is even as the Kano state counterpart has put arrangements in place to conduct mass wedding for about 1,500 couples under its social welfare programme.
Governor Dauda Lawal, who was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Malam Mumini Masamar Mudi, reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens in the state.
Governor Dauda, who served as the father of each groom, informed that his administration provided all required dowry payments of N200,000 for each groom. Each bride also received N50,000 to support small-scale trading activities in their matrimonial home, apart from the significant moment he presented the couples with marriage certificates and household items.
Governor Dauda charged the couples to respect one another and advised the brides particularly to be obedient to their husbands. He stressed the importance of fostering understanding and attracting Allah’s blessings in their marriages.
The Kano State government on its part confirmed it is about to conclude plans to organize a mass wedding for 1,500 lovers under its marriage social welfare initiative popularly known as ‘Auren Gata’.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the deputy commander-general of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, in Kano.
Aminudeen said that the scheme, implemented under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf, was part of efforts to support vulnerable members of society.
According to him, the decision to organise the mass wedding followed the successes recorded in the previous exercises.
He pointed out that the positive outcomes of previous programmes encouraged the government to commit more resources to sustain the initiative.
He added that governor Yusuf had directed that all necessary arrangements for the mass wedding be concluded before the end of May.
