The Minister assumed duty in the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in November 2024. And before his deployment to the Humanitarian ministry, he was the Minister of State for Education.

Also, Sununu represented the Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he chaired the Committee on Healthcare Services.

Since the deadline set by the Tinubu-led government , some appointees including:

Nasir Bala Aminu (Ja’oji) resigned as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership.

Reports also indicated that other cabinet members, including Nkeiruka Onyejeocha (Minister of State for Labour) and Muhammad Ali Pate (Minister of Health), were also expected to resign or were heavily linked to electoral ambitions.

However, the current wave of resignations are different from the five ministers who were discharged by President Tinubu in October 2024, which included Prof. Tahir Mamman, Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Lola Ade-John, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim.
