The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has been honoured with the Nigeria Regional Government Development Champion of the Year 2025 Award by the London Political Summit and Awards (LPSA).
The award ceremony, held at the UK House of Commons in London, recognised Dr. Ogbuku’s outstanding contributions to regional development, innovation, and governance in the Niger Delta region.
The event, hosted by Hon. Oliver Ryan, Member of Parliament for Burnley, and chaired by Prof. Kishan Devani BEM, drew prominent political leaders, diplomats, academics, and development experts from across Africa and the Commonwealth.
Dr. Ogbuku, who was represented at the event by Dr. Chris Ekam and Dr. Willie Etim, expressed appreciation to the organisers for acknowledging the NDDC’s impact on regional transformation.
He said the award was a testament to the Commission’s commitment to sustainable development and improved service delivery in Nigeria’s oil-producing communities.
“This recognition shows that people within and outside Nigeria see the changes the NDDC has brought to the Niger Delta. It will spur us to do more in completing legacy projects and promoting human capital development,” Ogbuku stated.
The NDDC also received the Nigeria Regional Development Agency of the Year 2025 Award, underscoring its growing reputation as a key driver of progress and innovation in the region.
A statement issued by the Director, Corporate Affairs, NDDC, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, and made available to the media in Port Harcourt, said the award was a proud moment for the Commission and a validation of the Board and Management’s renewed commitment to excellence.
“This international recognition is an encouragement for the NDDC to sustain its current development drive and deliver more impactful projects to the people of the Niger Delta,” Thompson-Wakama said.
Founder and Convener of the London Political Summit and Awards, Mazi Godson Azu, described the summit as a respected global platform for promoting governance dialogue, leadership, diplomacy, and democratic peace across Africa and the Commonwealth.
“The summit was born from a vision to foster dialogue, peace, and democratic partnership between Africa, the Commonwealth, and the global community,” Azu explained.
