With the prevalence of drug use in the society, particularly among youths, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ,NDLEA, has collaborated with Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, NFM, on drug prevention, treatment and care in order to eradicate the menace of drug use in the society.

This was revealed during a three-day sensitization training programme that took place at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International Headquarters Annex, Wuye, Abuja. Tagged: “Drug Prevention Treatment and Care”, the programme which brought together the pastors, ministers and other church workers was an elaborate, intensive and impactful training.

Speaking during the training, the Deputy Commandant General Narcotics, Dr Ngozi Madubuike articulated the agency’s readiness to collaborating with faith based organization and other non-governmental organizations in order to minimize wrong use of drug and its addiction in the society.

Re-echoing the agency’s mandate, she said, “We create awareness by going to schools, market, motor parks, work places and religious organization in order to educate them on the consequences associated with drug use.”

She also stated during the training that NDLEA in tandem with the federal government and the Act that established the agency will continue to train more members of the society with the skill that will help to prevent drug use, so as to be able to offer support to families and other societal members that are stressed with drug addiction.

Expressing his satisfaction on the successful completion of the training, the Regional Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Headquarters International Annex, Wuye, Pastor Edwin Etomi, said that apart from the timeliness of the training, it is also the fulfillment of one of the visions of the General Overseer of the ministry, Dr D.K Olukoya to prevent youths from going into drug but rather to engage in other useful ventures and contribute meaningfully to societal development.

In his words, “with the establishment of rehab centres by the church, which is a fulfillment of the vision of the General Overseer, Dr. D.K Olukoya, the training of the NDLEA will go a long way to help in counseling victims while praying to get help from the rehab centres to be reintegrated into the society. At the family level, this awareness and training will be able to foster aid to drug users before they go for therapy in the rehab centres.”

The programme coordinator, Dr Edikanabasi E. Udoh said with satisfaction that the training will enable trainees to detect early drug users and give proper guidance to the victim towards treatment. “I know that this training will go a long way in sensitizing the people on how they can handle drug reduction in the society.”

The personnel manager of the church, Pastor Ayesimoju Oluwafemi who was one of the facilitators of the training, said “there is need for us to partner with NDLEA so that we can sensitize our own pastors and counselors in the church so that they will be able to identify somebody that is under drug influence.

The training was concluded with great and expressed determination among participants to go into the society and make use of the acquired skills to combat the danger of drug.
