The Joint Revenue Board, JRB, has declared that the Nigerian tax identification (ID) portal will be ready and accessible nationwide on January 1, 2026, in a move that will redefine its administration.
This was contained in a notice posted on the JRB’s official X account on Monday.
The board referred to the tax identification as a unique, system-generated number assigned to all taxable persons in Nigeria strictly for tax administration purposes, stressing that ID will be linked to the National Identification Number, NIN, for individuals and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number for businesses and organisations.
JRB pointed out that the new Tax ID will replace previously issued tax identification numbers from Jan 1, 2026.
It further addressed the speculations as to possible bank account deductions or closures over non-compliance.
According to JRB, the portal is designed to provide unified identification for taxpayers, simplify access to tax-related services, and ensure nationwide accessibility.
The board advised taxpayers to retrieve their Tax ID through the designated portal or visit the nearest tax office for further assistance.
