The clarification followed a statement by Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, AVM Edward Gabkwet, explaining that since the UAV was an unmanned vehicle, there were no casualties on board or on ground.

The NAF spokesperson informed that preliminary investigation has since commenced to ascertain what led to the air accident.

It should also be pointed out that the propensity to always rush to press in the name of ‘breaking news’ without a hold of the complete facts should be discouraged in its entirety.”

He said that without clarifications from NAF, some media platforms had rushed to break the news that a helicopter had crashed, adding that the principle of developmental journalism, balanced reporting and fairness should be followed in reporting such an incident.
