The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in connection with the recent armed robbery and car snatching incident that occurred along the Alakahia–Rumosi axis of Port Harcourt on Tuesday, October 15, 2025.
The incident, which took place around 8:30 p.m. opposite the Primary School in Alakahia, involved a 2015 Toyota Avalon reportedly stolen at gunpoint by suspected armed robbers. The assailants also fled the scene with three mobile phones , one iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro, and a Samsung Galaxy S8.
CCTV footage obtained from the scene, which has circulated widely on social media, captured the moment the suspects carried out the operation and escaped with the stolen vehicle. The footage is currently being analyzed by investigators to aid in tracking down the perpetrators.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command confirmed that one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young, 42, has been arrested at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt, following an intelligence-led operation.
According to the statement, the suspect voluntarily confessed to his involvement in the robbery and provided useful information that will assist the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives who effected the arrest, emphasizing the Command’s determination to make Rivers State unsafe for criminals. He also appreciated members of the public for their cooperation and credible information that aided the police breakthrough.
Meanwhile, the Police have launched a manhunt for the other fleeing suspects and intensified efforts to recover the stolen vehicle and firearms used in the operation.
The command also urged residents to report any sighting or information about the stolen Toyota Avalon or its occupants to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, a ₦2 million reward has also been announced for anyone providing credible information leading to the recovery of the car or the arrest of the remaining suspects.
