The Rivers State Police Command said it has successfully repelled an armed robbery operation that occurred in the early hours of December 23, at a residence located at Ekwueme Street, Curve Mirinwanyi, Afam, Oyigbo Local Government Area.

 

A release by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR stated that the victim (name withheld) put up a strong resistance from the supposed assailants who fired gun shots, engaged the gang of armed robbers with a Pump-Action gun, who had stormed his compound, and was attempting to open his door, resulting in one of the suspects sustaining gunshot wounds. The wounded suspect was left behind as his accomplices fled the scene on sighting the Police Operatives.

Recovered items

 

The Police patrol team from Afam Division who promptly responded, in the process recovered the following exhibits: One locally fabricated double-barrel short gun, a live cartridge, a big iron bar, a hook tied with marine rope,  and a  button phone.

 

The injured suspect was rushed to Police Clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

 

The statement added that the corpse had been deposited at Resurrection Home Mortuary, Imo River, for autopsy, adding that onvestigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.

 

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, commended the bravery of the victim and swift response of the Police Operatives and assured the public of the Command’s continued efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents.

 

The Commissioner of Police further appeals to the public to support ongoing Police operations in order o dismantle all criminal links in the State.
