The crisis within the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State has continued to fester even as Emeka Beke continues to harp on the fact that he remains the Chairman of the party in the state, thereby denouncing planned congress by the Tony Okocha-led faction of the party in the state.
Beke in a statement described the event as a “kangaroo congress,” calling on party members to boycott it.
The statement stated that the controversy arises from the August 12, 2024, judgment by Justice Sika Henry Aprioku, which affirmed the legitimacy of the Emeka Beke-led APC executive committee and recognized its tenure until October 2025.
The statement also emphasized that the court ruling has not been set aside, making any action to truncate the committee’s tenure contentious.
The statement categorically observed that the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and Tony Okocha by their action acted in defiance of the ruling by convening what he described as a secret congress to elect new party executives in state.
Bekee said the action prompted an interlocutory injunction issued by Justice G.C. Ollor, halting the congress but the Court of Appeal has stayed enforcement of the injunction.
Similarly, the statement maintained that the planned APC congress in Rivers State cannot take place based on the subsisting tenure of the Emeka Beke Executive Committee which would last until October 2025, as validated by the judgment of Justice S.H. Aprioku.
